War films have always been popular amongst the public. This is for many reasons. If I were to speak for myself war films are intriguing to me because of the context that they have. Most of the war films out their today are based off or around true stories. I love seeing what other people have experienced in there lives. I also love to see what happened in wars the were before my lifetime. I do not know if this is the same for everyone but this is what intrigues me.
Throughout almost all war films there are common themes. One common theme is courage. In these films there is almost always one character that displays an immense amount of courage. He/She is usually the hero character and more often then not the main character through the movie. A second theme that is extremely popular in war films is fear. Fear in my opinion is more common than courage. Every movie I have watched including Hurt Locker has these two themes. In Hurt Locker the courage aspect is displayed by the main character as he is fearless when it comes to defusing bombs. He puts his life on the line over and over again. The fear aspect is portrayed by the African American character. He is scared for his life and just wants to make it out of there with his life. He plays every situation as safe as possible.
A heroic actor is someone that put his life on the line for others around him when he does not have to. I believe that the main character in Hurt Locker is a hero to an extent. He is a hero in the sense that he puts his life in danger for others. However he does it recklessly, which puts others in danger when they should not have been in danger.
