AI questions

1) In 2001: A Space Odyssey AI is portrayed by Hal 9000 which is the operating system that controls the workings of the spaceship that they are using as travel. In Ex Machina, AI is portrayed through robots that have been created to look and act exactly like human beings

2) In Ex Machina, the main character Caleb is brought to a compound of his employer to test out how real/believable the new AI robot he made is. In the events that lead up to the ending of the movie Caleb is tricked into releasing the robot (Ava). She gets him to trust her and believe her and ends up turning on her maker and Caleb.

3) In terms of which movie has the most accurate representation of what AI would be like in real life I would have to say we are probably close to the Hal 9000 AI than we are the Ava AI. The AI that acts basically human is in my opinion farther away than a AI that controls some things for us.

4) The one thing I think movies with AI leave out or do not show enough is that AI is not at all times bad. I think they need to show that AI is a good thing and can do good things for people. “Yet they are inscribing and building assumption into a new world.” It doesn’t allows have to be negative impacts that it causes.

5) The black monolith in 2001: A space odyssey represents change. The reason I say this is because every time the monolith appears in the movie is when something is changing in the world. For example when the monolith first shows up it is when around the time that the apes discovered how to use objects as weapons. The next is on the moon when the citizen of earth are trying to change their civilization and expand elsewhere. The last time is when the movie is showing the futuristic room when the guy ends up dying. I think it shows up to gather information on how people or things act/react to change around them. However, there are plenty of other ideas for what the monolith represents.
